Carolina Poodle Rescue at Dreamweaver Farms

keep typing September in my date column. I think I can’t believe it’s October and I’ve been out here for over six months now. It seems like six days. My how time flies.

Today was grooming day. Carol Voyles, her friend Daphne and Ashley Reider have committed to come to Dreamweaver Farms every other Monday to groom our rescue dogs. I can’t do this by myself. I am spending an average of 7 to8 hours per day in the kennel now with routine cleaning, feeding and some bit of socializing. One day, I’m going to get a picture of the ladies working. Right now, I am too busy being glad they are there. All together, we groomed 3 standards (Simba, Belle and Phoebe)and 10 toys and mini’s (Zeus, Mighty, Tyger, Chadwick, Zelda, Tony, Cleo, Gidget, Gracie and Frenchie), quite a day for our crew. We keep two grooming tables going all the time and one tub always has a dog in it and sometimes two dogs in it. Belle our pregnant standard girl got a beautiful do, just in time too as I am thinking that we have about 5 or 7 more days before we’ll have more pups in our kennel. Simba got all spruced up, too, and looked wonderful. Shaved ears really become him and bring out his beautiful eyes. Pics shortly.

Carol and I are discussing and finalizing our schedule now for the rest of the year. Any who would like to come on one of these Mondays, you are welcome. It’s a comfortable, warm time of camaraderie as we bathe and trim and clip and scissor these guys into looking beautiful.

On a sadder note, we lost one of our own today. Pride was a retired racing greyhound that came to live at Dreamweaver Farms last spring. She was content here, but that was all. Then, in August, Annette and Christina came to visit and Pride became a different dog. She chattered and she pranced, she smiled and she ran. She did all but take the car keys away and take off with the car to let Annette and Christina know that she was THEIR girl and they should not even think about leaving her here. Pride lost her fight with chronic and untreated (before CPR) urinary tract infections and teeth that were so infected that even to pull them would have been dangerous. Light a candle tonight for this beautiful girl. Pride (race name Dynamic Pride) would have been 12 years old this November. Annette and Christine are having her cremated and will return her to Dreamweaver Farms to sprinkle her ashes in the pastures, so she can run our fields to her heart’s content.

Whenever there is both life and death, I can’t help but think of the song “The Circle of Life” by Elton John. Have you ever listened to the lyrics? I’ll leave you with them now. Think of Pride, whose circle has ended. And of our precious puppies, whose circle has just begun. And remember,. To never take more than you give.

Peace…

Donna

From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun
There's more to be seen than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done

Some say eat or be eaten
Some say live and let live
But all are agreed as they join the stampede
You should never take more than you give

In the circle of life
It's the wheel of fortune
It's the leap of faith
It's the band of hope
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the circle, the circle of life

Some of us fall by the wayside
And some of us soar to the stars
And some of us sail through our troubles
And some have to live with the scars

There's far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small on the endless round
